Leadership

With more than three decades of experience in education, Dr. Thomas H. Beatty is committed to ensuring every Open High School student feels supported, inspired, and valued. His career in education began in 1994, following an initial career in corporate leadership, and has been rooted in Richmond Public Schools ever since.

Throughout his career, Dr. Beatty has served RPS as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator. His K–12 experiences in RPS were invaluable when he became an assistant professor of educational leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University and director of the university’s School of Education Child Development Center, where he helped prepare future educational leaders.

Drawing on this breadth of experience, Dr. Beatty believes that strong relationships among students, families, and educators are essential to student success. He is dedicated to fostering a school community where every student is known, encouraged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
